The beauty of Mandelbrot
The first time I came across Mandelbrot sets was in an Arthur C Clarke novel. The Ghost from the Grand Banks. I think. Anyway, the idea was beautiful: an infinite, wonderful image born by mathematics and driven by great computers. Take a look. Below. |

Wow. Hard to imagine that all these were generated by a few equations, innit? But they were. They're fractals, a images generated by using mathematical equations. A Mandelbrot set (an M-set) is a set of points whose boundary makes up a stunning fractal.
The beauty of a fractal is that no matter how much you zoom in or zoom out, the picture remains the same: no distortion, no sketchy blurs. The deeper you go into a fractal, the more you zoom in, the more you see. It's like a whole world down there. It's an infinite image. No matter how much you zoom in, there's always more. A neverending pictureresque dreamworld. This is art, this strange branch of maths; Madelbrot Art.
(note: the image above is of the Buddhabrot variety, and the ones on the right are more fractal art)

27/072008:
Practice session. Image our suprise when a bunch of commados stormed the school. ( Really! No kidding ). Martial Law was implemented and all the bus routes were blocked for something like three hours. After a few minutes two choppers landed in our school grounds. The dust was unbelievable. A V.I.P was promptly whisked off in an escort; we watched the cars and SUVs streaming off and stayed until the choppers left in another whirlwind of dust. Today is the SAARC summit; the V.I.P's probably connected in somehow.
22/7/08: Life >>>
Ah. Skipped school, from Willesden College International to President's College Kotte. Not bad, still . . .new syllabus, new life and all that. Looks like I'm wasting a whole year of my life cause of this new-skool business. Ran into the President's College Eastern Cadet Band and now I'm in. Damn. Currently designing the band website. Check it out here >
Better news: found the Animoprhs complete collection up for download. Check the animorphsforum. In case you haven't read the series, it's wonderful. It gives you a whole new perspective on life. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Even better: completed my first novel, completed my book of poems. Now I'm gonna run down to Vijitha Yapa and get it published. Sigh. That's not gonna be easy . . . anyway, started on a new science fiction novel.
WORSE: Exams! Ahh!
